In nineteenth-century Europe, porcelain enameled signs with a white background were typically destined for indoor environments. Fabricated in smaller sizes, white enameled signs were most widely used for interior details, such as labels for drawers and cabinets. (Think of the antique apothecary cabinet.)

With our hand-stenciled Amalienborg Highlander house number, we decided to bring the inside out. True to tradition, we reinforced the sign’s edges with a black double trim that contrasts with the glossy pure white background. The result is a light, yet distinguished house number. Charming and simple, the Amalienborg Highlander house number would be an elegant adornment for a Second Empire style house of the Victorian era.
